Udda is our proposal for the new accumulator tank in Gullbergsvassen, part of a competition for Göteborg Energi. The project builds on the site's history of energy storage, a place once defined by two iconic gas holders, while creating a contemporary landmark for a sustainable future.
Inspired by the industrial heritage of Göteborg, Udda merges past and future through a design language that respects the site's character while introducing new qualities. The corrugated steel facade, necessary for the tank’s function, is used as the primary architectural element, creating a strong identity with minimal resource use. Functional elements like the external staircase and cooling pipes are integrated as visible design features, adding character without unnecessary materials.
The proposal focuses on simplicity, efficiency and sustainability, creating a rational structure with a clear silhouette from a distance and refined details up close. A contemporary interpretation of industrial architecture for a future-oriented energy landscape.
